What can Calne Cricket Club offer me?

One of Calne Cricket Club's major goals is to attract players who live in Calne but play elsewhere.

18 years ago the club realised that it would be in severe danger of folding in the future due to a lack of senior players. This forced the club to have a massive overhaul. The committee was restructured, seeing a new Chairman, Treasurer, Welfare Officer, Secretary and Junior Chairman.

A junior section was introduced and players went on coaching courses to support this. A new first team captain and selection committee was also introduced. And more recently we have been awarded with the Club Mark accreditation from the EBC. This created an influx of new, younger players, a welcoming atmosphere, family friendly club and a financially stability.

Calne Cricket Club has a First team, Second team, Sunday team and Wednesday Evening team. We now have  a saturday 3rd side.

The club has ambitions and wants to keep moving forward. To do this we need people like you. We have now moved to our new ground at beversbrook. Join us now and come and be part of this exciting move.

The social side of Cricket is as important as the game, and many of the players stay after matches. We have a very strong, welcoming and active social element within the club.

CALNE CRICKET ALSO OFFERS MATCH PLAY CRICKET FOR LADIES IN SOFT BALL OR HARD BALL CRICKET.

How do I go about restarting?

If you have not played for a while, maybe feel a little unfit, don't worry!. Calne Cricket Club can ease you back into action, at a rate that suits you. We have a Second team,, a Wednesday evening team and a Sunday team. You may feel more confident playing in these teams whilst you find your feet again.

What is senior Cricket like?

In senior Cricket you will play with players ranging from 16 to 67 years of age. Also some youth players that have outstanding ability and are worthy of a place in the senior teams. You will probably play in either the seconds, Sunday or Wednesday teams first to help us assess you ability. If you show the required level of ability you may quickly acquire a place in the first team.

Calne Cricket Club recognises ability and performance and it is this that will secure your place in the teams.

What is expected in terms of commitment?

This is a very important subject and one that is probably greatly miss-understood. The bottom line is that the more you attend training and make us aware of your availability the more likely it is you will be selected. Calne Cricket Club recognises a person’s ability and performance at games. If you perform well and are available, you will be selected. However, do not expect to be selected for the First team if you just show up now and then. As a member you will be expected to assist with the maintenance of the Cricket square.

Do I have to play?

Simply put, no. Calne Cricket Club welcomes anyone regardless of age, disability, sexuality, gender, race, religion or socio-economic status. Come along to the relevant training session. Please seek advice from you GP if you have physical disabilities or a major health problem first. The club also has a social members section, or you may even be able to help with the administration side of the club. All are welcome.
